Austin Courthouse Wedding | Maddie + Edward

I can’t say enough about these two. They are as down to earth as they are good looking. I had sooooo much fun meeting them for their engagement session that took place at an airplane hangar … if you haven’t seen those pics yet you must go have a look!

I could go on and on about why I love intimate weddings and elopements but… Maddie says it best in her answers below….

Q: How did you two meet?

In August 2015 I had recently graduated from graduate school and was waiting tables at a small bistro on the outskirts of Burlington, Vermont. Eddie, a Texas native and a group of his buddies were on their annual golf trip in Vermont when the wandered into that bistro for a bite to eat between rounds.  After finishing their lunch, they were packing up to leave and Eddie came up to me and handed me his receipt with a handwritten poem and his phone number written on it. Eddie had a text message from me before he made it to the 16th hole.

We texted back and forth and followed each other on social media.  Over the next 4 years we exchanged a handful of messages but didn’t physically meet again until April 2019.  Eddie had reached out asking if he could buy me a flight down to Texas to visit.  I was skeptical at first but ultimately it seemed like a fun trip.  From the moment he picked me up at the Houston airport we had the best time.

After traveling back and forth to each other for three months I started applying for jobs in Austin, and accepted a position in a matter of weeks.  We decided to move in together in South Austin where we lived for about a year and a half before moving to a home we built in Lago Vista.

Q: What do you like to do for fun together?

Early on we realized we enjoy a lot of the same things!  On our third visit together I took Eddie on a 27 mile hike in the White Mountains in New Hampshire called the Presidential Traverse which consists of 9 peaks that we completed in one day!  We both love being active and exploring new places.  Another thing we enjoy together is being creative- we do woodworking projects and other furniture, our style is modern.

Q: Tell us about your wedding and why you chose to have a more intimate ceremony?

This was an easy decision for us, we never even discussed having a typical ceremony. I did not have the desire to walk down an isle and be the center of attention.  I wanted something that was just between the two of us.

Q: What’s something you loved about your wedding and/or reception?

I was so happy that we created a whole weekend for the event, it allowed us enough time to connect with all of our guests that have traveled from a number of different states.

On Thursday afternoon we were married at the courthouse, followed by photographs.  Lisa makes getting photos taken so fun and exciting.  I loved how low stress it was.  I’m thankful that Lisa allowed me to have a wardrobe change between the ceremony and the photos taken in the city. She is great at knowing all the best spots for photos!  Then we had an intimate dinner with only close family at Jacobys.

The following day we had a β€œreception” at Vista Brewing in Driftwood.  Because of the distance from our house and Lago Vista and the brewery, we rented a party bus to take us.  This was the BEST decision!

Q: Do you have any advice for couples in the wedding planning process?

Focus on what is most important to you and spend the time/money on those things.  For me the food throughout the weekend was important to me, I wanted to pick restaurants/venues that had food options that were delicious and farm to table (ish).  Focus on the big things, your guests will never remember all the little details that you are stressing about!

Commons Ford Ranch | Austin Elopement Session

This fun elopement session was shot on a very overcast and somewhat drizzly day at Commons Ford Ranch. We almost cancelled the shoot and I’m soooooo glad we didn’t because it turned out awesome! Covid has brought the good the bad and the ugly but one new trend is smaller more intimate weddings or eloping with just the two of you. Austin has become a major hub for elopements and I’m not mad about it. These smaller more intimate weddings and elopements are by far my favorite. It takes the stress away from all the details and puts the focus on you and your love story. I can’t get enough of the pictures in the back of their Jeep with there puppy :).
